Meeran Haider, accused in the Delhi riots conspiracy case under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act, has withdrawn his bail plea from the Delhi High Court. His lawyer, Advocate Shri Singh, said that the withdrawal is due to the completion of the police investigation and that Haider intends to approach the trial court directly.

The Division Bench of Justices Suresh Kumar Kait and Girish Kathpaliya approved Haider’s request to withdraw the appeal, subsequently dismissing it. The appeal was set for hearing on October 7 along with other related cases.

Haider’s initial bail application was rejected by the trial court in 2022, prompting his appeal to the High Court. On May 20, 2022, the Delhi High Court had issued a notice to the Delhi Police regarding the bail plea.

The trial court’s rejection of Haider’s bail application was based on several factors including statements from protected witnesses who implicated him in the conspiracy and riots. The court had observed that physical presence at riot locations was not necessary to prove involvement in a conspiracy.

Prosecution allegations against Haider include his association with the Jamia Coordination Committee (JCC) and United Against Hatred (UAH) Okhla, as well as his alleged role in managing eight protest sites across Delhi. Special Public Prosecutor Amit Prasad also accused Haider of collecting and using funds to support the riots.
