Bangladesh: thin traffic, incidents of violence amid call for non-cooperation movement

In Bangladesh, a day begin with the incidents of violence on Sunday amid call for nationwide non-cooperation movement.

Most of the shops and other private offices were closed since morning amid the protest of students and mass people. All kinds of educational institutions including schools have been closed for last two weeks after the government declared curfew across Bangladesh following massive violence in mids of July.

Apart from Dhaka and its nearby districts, reports of mass protest and violence are coming from Chittagong, Bogura, Sylhet and other towns across the country. At least two people were killed and many other injured at Munshiganj town near Dhaka. At least one person was killed and 20 others injured during a clash between protesters, ruling party men and police in Magura on Sunday morning.

According to sources, mobile internet services could be shut down at any moment.

The ‘Anti-discrimination Students Movement’ coordinators reiterated on Saturday evening for the non-cooperation movement from Sunday rejecting Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s proposal for talks. On Saturday evening, the coordinators of the protest movement announced one point demand asking for registration of the Sheikh Hasina led government during a massive gathering at Central Shahid minar, Dhaka.
