Online food delivery platform Zomato Ltd. has received GST demand notices totaling over Rs 4.59 crore, including interest and penalties, from authorities in Tamil Nadu and West Bengal.

The company plans to appeal these orders issued by the Assistant Commissioner of GST and Central Excise in Nungambakkam Division, Tamil Nadu, and the Assistant Commissioner of Revenue in West Bengal, the company said in a regulatory filing.

In Tamil Nadu, the tax authority issued an order with a GST demand of Rs 81.16 lakh, with an unspecified amount of interest and a penalty of Rs 8.21 lakh.

The order from the West Bengal authorities specifies a GST demand of Rs 1.92 crore, interest of Rs 1.58 crore, and a penalty of Rs 19 lakh.

Zomato said it has clarified in its response, along with relevant documents and judicial precedents, 'which appears to not have been appreciated by the authorities while passing the order'.

"The company believes that it has a strong case to defend the matter before the relevant appellate authority and does not expect any financial impact on the company," Zomato stated.
