Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) national convenor Arvind Kejriwal will vacate his official residence in Delhi’s Civil Lines and move to a new home in the New Delhi Assembly constituency area within the next two days, party sources said on Wednesday.

Earlier, the party said, “Arvind Kejriwal is looking for a property that is free of disputes and suitable for residence.” The statement added, “The search for his new home has intensified, with a preference for a location near New Delhi, where he is an MLA, so he can remain connected with the people. Many MLAs, councillors, party workers, and common citizens are offering their homes to the AAP Chief.”

Kejriwal tendered his resignation as Chief Minister of Delhi to Lt. Governor VK Saxena on September 17. This came days after he was released on bail in the excise policy case. Following his resignation, Atishi staked her claim to form the new government.

Kejriwal said that he would return to the position of Chief Minister only if he receives a renewed mandate and a “certificate of honesty” from the people of Delhi in the upcoming assembly elections, likely to be held in February 2025.

Atishi took the oath as the Chief Minister of Delhi on September 22, after being named as Kejriwal’s successor by the AAP leader. In an emotional gesture, she placed an empty chair beside hers, saying, “This chair belongs to Arvind Kejriwal. Today, I took charge as the CM of Delhi with the same pain in my heart as Bharat ji had. Just like Bharat ji worked with Lord Shri Ram’s sandals, I will serve as CM for the next four months.”

Atishi expressed confidence that Kejriwal would return as Delhi’s Chief Minister in the upcoming elections.

At 43, Atishi became the third woman to serve as Chief Minister of Delhi, following Sushma Swaraj and Sheila Dikshit.
