The Supreme Court of India on Monday dismissed a petition alleging that COVID-19 vaccines caused severe side effects, including blood clotting, calling the plea as an attempt to create unnecessary alarm.

A bench led by Chief Justice DY Chandrachud, along with Justices JB Pardiwala and Manoj Misra, declined to entertain the petition, stating that it lacked merit. “We don’t want to rake this up. This is just to create a sensation,” remarked the bench, questioning the usefulness of the petition.

The court further highlighted the broader implications, suggesting that public health efforts might have been compromised if people had refrained from taking the vaccine.

During the proceedings, the court directly questioned the petitioner’s lawyer on whether he had taken the vaccine. After confirming that he had received the vaccine and experienced no side effects, the bench emphasized the lack of merit in the case.

The petition was filed by Priya Mishra and others, who sought to challenge the alleged adverse effects of the COVID-19 vaccination drive.
