Records toppled one after another as West Indies secured a commanding 8-wicket victory over the co-hosts, the USA, in the Super 8 of the ongoing T20 World Cup.

Both teams struck a combined total of 14 sixes during the match, pushing the overall six tally in the T20 World Cup 2024 to 412. This achievement surpasses the previous record of 405 sixes set in the 2021 edition of the tournament.

Nicholas Pooran contributed three of those 14 sixes, bringing his individual tally to an impressive 17—the most by any player in a single T20 World Cup edition. He eclipsed the record set by the legendary West Indies opener Chris Gayle, who hit 16 sixes in 2012.

On a batting-friendly surface, West Indies delivered a clinical bowling performance, restricting the USA to 128. Roston Chase was the star with the ball, producing a spellbinding performance that dismantled the USA batters. Chase kept the run rate in check and recorded figures of 3/19. Andre Russell complemented Chase’s efforts with his variations, ending with figures of 3/31.

Russell’s performance brought him level with former West Indies all-rounder Dwayne Bravo for the most wickets for the Caribbean side in T20 World Cups. Both all-rounders now have 27 wickets in the marquee event.

In a match between the hosts of the marquee event, the Men in Maroon left the USA dazed with their clinical bowling performance, restricting them to 128.

Stepping in for the injured Brandon King, Shai Hope unleashed an explosive performance in the powerplay. The floodgates opened, and boundaries began to rain down from Hope’s bat in Bridgetown. Johnson Charles played a supportive role, rotating the strike at every opportunity.

The highlight of Hope’s innings was a hat-trick of sixes, sending the ball flying all over the stadium off Milind Kumar in the 9th over. Hope celebrated his 26-ball fifty by launching the ball into the stands right after the powerplay. He finished things off with a towering six, sealing a 9-wicket victory for the Windies with more than nine overs to spare. Hope finished with a blistering 82* off just 39 deliveries.
