Cairo: The Indian Air Force (IAF) Rafale fighter jets, known for their air supremacy, are referred to as ‘omnirole’ aircraft. These Rafale jets on Thursday flew over the Great Pyramids. Underscoring the deepening military relations between India and Egypt, the fighter jets from both nations participated in a joint military exercise.

As part of this exercise, Rafales from both countries flew over the iconic Great Pyramids. "While at Egypt the Indian Rafales soared high and flew over the Great Pyramids in formation with the Egyptian Rafales. Indian ambassador to Egypt Mr Ajit Gupte met the team and extended his best wishes," the IAF tweeted

IAF jets then soar over Greece. "The Greek sky saw the IAF Rafales flying with the F-16s of the Hellenic Air Force. Aimed at enhancing international military cooperation and interoperability, this transatlantic leap by IAF's Rafales has opened the gates to many such enriching exercises in future," the IAF tweeted.

On Thursday, these IAF Rafale jets returned to India after successful participation in Ex Red Flag in the USA. Meanwhile, on the return, a refuelling halt was planned at Lajes, Portugal. The IAF contingent then split into two teams and conducted a joint exercise with the Egyptian AF and Hellenic AF in Egypt and Greece respectively.

Earlier this month, the IAF contingent participated in the Exercise Red Flag 2024 conducted at Eielson Air Force Base, Alaska of the United States Air Force, from June 4 to June 14. This was the second edition of Ex Red Flag 2024, which is an advanced aerial combat training exercise, held four times a year by the US Air Force.

"The exercise witnessed participation of the Indian Air Force along with Republic of Singapore Air Force (RSAF), Royal Air Force (RAF) of the United Kingdom, Royal Netherlands Air Force (RNLAF), German Luftwaffe, and the US Air Force (USAF)," the Defence Ministry had said in a statement.
