Former Union minister Upendra Kushwaha on Sunday expressed hope that upon return to power, the BJP-led NDA will make a fresh attempt at scrapping the “undemocratic” collegium system of appointment of judges in the higher judiciary.
Addressing an election rally in Karakat Lok Sabha constituency from where he is in the fray, Mr Kushwaha made the statement in the presence of Union Home Minister Amit Shah.
“The collegium system has many flaws. It is undemocratic. It has shut the doors of judgeship in the higher judiciary on Dalits, OBCs and even the poor among the upper castes,” claimed Mr Kushwaha, who heads the Rashtriya Lok Morcha (RLM).
“If we look at the composition of the bench in the Supreme Court and the high courts, it is dominated by members of a few hundred families. A reason why the anomalous system has been criticised by no less than the current president and her predecessor,” he added.

Nitish Kumar today accidentally suggested that he wishes Prime Minister Narendra Modi becomes a Chief Minister again. A four-year-old girl in Sharjah was left alone on the school bus after the staff forgot to drop her off. According to theKhaleej Times, the girl, who fell asleep, was discovered crying by the bus conductor during the second trip taken by the bus for boys. The girl was on the bus from 6 to 8:40 am and later became ill, following which she was taken to a hospital for a check-up.
Fortunately, the girl survived without any harm. However, the girl’s mother is now advising other parents to stay vigilant and regularly talk to bus drivers and conductors regarding their child’s safety.
”At 7:30 am, the conductor called to inform me that my child fell asleep, was left behind on the bus, and couldn’t reach the classroom. I told him to immediately drop her home, but he didn’t. It was only when I called her teacher that she came to know about the incident. We rushed to the school by 8.15 am, but my daughter hadn’t reached the classroom or school yet,” the girl’s mother recalled the incident.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), according to several reports, is interested in Gautam Gambhir taking over the role of Indian cricket team coach. Amid lack of alternatives, because of certain overseas coaches’ withdrawal, the BCCI don’t seem to have many top options when it comes to finding Rahul Dravid’s successor as Team India’s head coach. A report has now claimed that Gambhir, who is the mentor of Kolkata Knight Riders in IPL 2024 at present, was offered a ‘blank cheque’ by the franchise’s co-owner Shah Rukh Khan to join the franchise for the next 10 years, when he was at Lucknow Super Giants.
A report in Dainik Jagran has suggested that Gambhir is also interested in the India head coach job. But, wants a guarantee over his 100% selection if he fills out the application for the role. If the BCCI is only looking at Gambhir as one of the ‘candidates’, he isn’t going to apply.

AAP Rajya Sabha MP Swati Maliwal on Sunday said that she has been receiving rape and death threats after a “character assassination” campaign allegedly orchestrated by party leaders and volunteers.
She said that the situation escalated after the YouTuber Dhruv Rathee posted a one-sided video against her.
“After the leaders and volunteers of my party, i.e., AAP orchestrated a campaign of character assassination, victim shaming, and fanning of emotions against me, I have been getting rape and death threats. This got further exacerbated when YouTuber @Dhruv_Rathee posted a one-sided video against me,” Ms Maliwal wrote on X (formerly Twitter) on Sunday.

Hamas armed wing al-Qassam Brigades said it launched a “big missile” attack on Tel Aviv on Sunday as the Israeli military sounded sirens in the central city warning of possible incoming rockets.
In a statement on its Telegram channel on Sunday, al-Qassam Brigades said the rockets were launched in response to what it called “Zionist massacres against civilians”.
Hamas Al-Aqsa TV said the rockets were launched from the Gaza Strip.
Rocket sirens had not been heard in Tel Aviv for the past four months. The reason for the sirens was not immediately stated by the Israeli military.
Israeli emergency medical services said they had received no reports of casualties.
The attack signalled the Islamist faction was still able to fire long-range rockets despite more than seven months of devastating Israeli military offensive from the air and the ground.
