Dr. Sukanta Majumdar, Minister of State for Education and Development of the North Eastern Region, inaugurated a Safai Mitra Suraksha Shivir at The English and Foreign Languages University (EFLU), Hyderabad, on Saturday. As part of the Swachhata Hi Seva (SHS) 2024 Campaign, Dr. Majumdar distributed safety kits to sanitation workers and awarded certificates to NSS Volunteers in recognition of their efforts in the campaign.
The event was attended by Vice Chancellor (In-charge) Prof. Haribandi Lakshmi, academicians, dignitaries, faculty members, and students. A comprehensive report on the activities conducted under the SHS Campaign 2024 was presented, and a short film highlighting the initiatives was screened.
Earlier in the day, Dr. Majumdar chaired a review meeting on the implementation of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020. He also inaugurated a new reading room at the university for students.
During his address, Dr. Majumdar praised EFLU for its role as the Nodal University for 11 states and a Union Territory in drafting the blueprint for NEP 2020 implementation. He also lauded the institution’s contributions to the International Training Programmes under the Indian Technical and Economic Cooperation (ITEC) initiative of the Ministry of External Affairs, which has trained participants from over 120 countries.
Commending the university’s engagement in the Swachhata Hi Seva 2024 campaign, Dr. Majumdar acknowledged the strong participation of students, faculty, and staff in promoting cleanliness and public involvement (Jan Bhagidhari). He echoed Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s call for making cleanliness a part of everyday life.
Dr. Majumdar also took part in the ‘Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam’ initiative by planting a tree on the EFLU campus.
