Nepal Schools Close Due to Student Health Complaints from Excessive Heat

The temperature across Nepal including the Kathmandu Valley has soared sharply, making normal life difficult in the districts of Tarai. The Meteorological Forecasting Division reported that the maximum temperature in the Kathmandu Valley reached approximately 33 degrees Celsius today, marking a continued increase over the past few days.

The onset of the monsoon season is still expected in Nepal which may arrive in a week, until then temperatures are likely to soar further. Similarly, the temperatures reached 36.6 degrees Celsius in Dipayal, 41 degrees Celsius in Dhangadhi, 42.5 degrees Celsius in Sadepani of Kailali, 41.2 degrees Celsius in Nepalgunj, and 38.6 degrees Celsius in Bhairahawa today. Presently Nepal is experiencing the combined effects of local winds, the Westerly wind, and the partial impact of a low-pressure system centred around Bihar, India.

After the temperature of Dang district was recorded at more than 39 degrees Celsius, the schools at Tulasipur Sub-Metropolitan City will be closed for five days from May 31 as students started facing health complications due to continuously increasing heat for the past few days. Meanwhile, schools operating within Rapti Rural Municipality are closed for two days due to the excessive heat.
