Prime Minister Narendra Modi shared a moving tribute to legendary singer Lata Mangeshkar on the occasion of her 95th birth anniversary, honoring her memory and legacy.

In a message posted on X, PM Modi said, “Remembering Lata Didi on her birth anniversary. She will always live on in the hearts and minds of people due to her soulful songs. Lata Didi and I had a special bond. I have been fortunate to receive her affection and blessings.”

Lata Mangeshkar, famously known as the “Nightingale of India,” passed away on February 6, 2022. Her contributions to Indian music are unparalleled, leaving behind a vast repertoire of timeless songs loved by millions across the globe. Her birth anniversary continues to be celebrated by fans and music lovers worldwide.

Born in 1929 in Indore, Madhya Pradesh, Lata Mangeshkar was nurtured in a musically inclined family. Her father, Pandit Deenanath Mangeshkar, a classical musician, greatly influenced her passion for singing. Her breakthrough came in 1949 with the song “Aayega Aayega Aayega” from the film Mahal. However, it was her collaboration with composer Naushad that solidified her rise to stardom. Over the years, her melodious voice graced iconic tracks such as “Pyar Kiya To Darna Kya” and “Ajeeb Dastaan Hai Yeh,” earning her a place in the hearts of millions.

Throughout her illustrious career, she worked with legendary composers including R.D. Burman, Laxmikant-Pyarelal, and A.R. Rahman, delivering hit after hit. Her versatility allowed her to sing in over 36 languages, further cementing her status as a national treasure.

In addition to her musical achievements, Mangeshkar was known for her philanthropic efforts, particularly in healthcare and education for underprivileged children.

Her legacy was celebrated through numerous accolades, including the Bharat Ratna in 2001, the Dadasaheb Phalke Award, and France’s Legion of Honour. Though she passed away on February 6, 2022, her music continues to inspire and uplift generations.
