Study Abroad: Sixth Rhodes Scholarship For Indian Scholars Set To Launch In 2026

The Rhodes Trust, in partnership with the Radhakrishnan-Rajan family, has announced the establishment of the sixth Rhodes Scholarship for Indian students. With the first recipient expected to enter the University of Oxford in 2026, this scholarship will now provide six seats each year to Indian scholars.

Students who meet the eligibility requirements can apply for the scholarship at www.rhodeshouse.ox.ac.uk.

Eligibility criteria:

  • Candidates must be Indian citizens with a valid Indian passport or another acceptable form of identification.

  • Candidates must have completed their formal education at an Indian educational institution for at least four of the previous ten years. They must also have either (i) passed the school-leaving exam (10th or 12th standard) at an Indian school or (ii) be in their final year of an undergraduate degree at an Indian university.

  • Candidates obtaining a medical degree, or medical doctors who are presently pursuing or have finished their one-year internship (CRRI), the age limit is extended by one year.

Documents requirements:

  • a birth certificate attesting to the applicant's compliance with the age requirement

  • A copy of a current passport verifying the applicant's citizenship requirements, with translation provided if needed

  • an authentic transcript from the institution or university the candidate attended or is enrolled at, displaying their cumulative grade history

  • The applicant must provide proof of formal study at an Indian educational institution for at least 4 of the last 10 years as of the application date, as well as the completion of a school-leaving exam at an Indian school (10th or 12th grade) if they are neither an Indian university graduate nor in their final year of undergraduate study at an Indian university.

  • A comprehensive curriculum vitae (CV) that provides information about educational background, awards, scholarships, leadership roles, jobs, volunteer work, community service, political participation, and any achievements in the arts, music, or sports

  • A colour snapshot (jpg format) of the head and shoulders

  • A one-page personal statement that doesn't exceed 1,000 words
