Rajkot Gaming Zone Had Just One Exit, Was Running Without Fire License

The massive fire at a gaming zone in Rajkot which resulted in the death of 27 people, including 9 children, has raised serious questions about the safety standards at the facility. Officials said that the amusement centre was operating without a no-objection certificate (NOC) for fire clearance and also had just one exit.
The gaming zone, called TRP, was packed with visitors due to a weekend discount offer with tickets priced at just Rs 99. It is suspected that the fire might have started due to a short circuit, but officials said that the exact cause will be known only after a probe.
“The reason for the fire has yet to be ascertained. The attempts to douse the fire are underway. We are facing difficulty in the firefighting operation because the temporary structure has collapsed and also due to the wind velocity,” a fire department official said.
The intensity of the fire was such that smoke was visible from several kilometers away. The bodies were charred beyond recognition, officials..

BJP Will Try To Scrap “Undemocratic” Collegium System: Ex Union Minister

Former Union minister Upendra Kushwaha on Sunday expressed hope that upon return to power, the BJP-led NDA will make a fresh attempt at scrapping the “undemocratic” collegium system of appointment of judges in the higher judiciary.
Addressing an election rally in Karakat Lok Sabha constituency from where he is in the fray, Mr Kushwaha made the statement in the presence of Union Home Minister Amit Shah.
“The collegium system has many flaws. It is undemocratic. It has shut the doors of judgeship in the higher judiciary on Dalits, OBCs and even the poor among the upper castes,” claimed Mr Kushwaha, who heads the Rashtriya Lok Morcha (RLM).
“If we look at the composition of the bench in the Supreme Court and the high courts, it is dominated by members of a few hundred families. A reason why the anomalous system has been criticised by no less than the current president and her predecessor,” he added.
Mr Kushwaha, who was the minister of state for HRD in the first Narendra Modi government, r..
