Lt Governor Takes Swipe At Arvind Kejriwal, Orders Probe Into Hospital Fire

The fire in a Delhi children’s hospital last week – in which seven infants were killed – has prompted a swipe from Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena, who declared himself “disappointed” that Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal and Delhi Health Minister Saurabh Bhardwaj had “paid only lip service and given sound bites (to the press)… and shirked responsibility” since the gut-wrenching incident.
Mr Saxena said he had been compelled “in public interest” to order an anti-corruption probe into possible lapses in registration and regulatory management of private nursing homes in the city.
“… ACB has been directed to undertake a comprehensive inquiry into the registration of nursing homes in the city, to assess how many nursing homes are functioning without valid registrations and if those that have a valid registration comply with prescribed norms…” Mr Saxena said.

Seepage In Mumbai’s Undersea Coastal Road Tunnel 2 Months After Opening

India’s first undersea tunnel — the coastal road tunnel in Mumbai — is showing evidence of seepage. The tunnel has been in use only for less than three months. The twin tunnels, which have a diameter of 12.19 metres, run 17-20 m below sea level.
On March 11, one side of the coastal road was opened to traffic and more than 7 lakh vehicles have travelled through the route so far.
The Coastal Road — part of the city’s masterplan developed in 1967 — was inaugurated by Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde and his Deputies — Devendra Fadnavis and Ajit Pawar
The 2.07 km tunnel start near Girgaon (ahead of Marine Drive), extend north under the Arabian Sea, Girgaon Chowpatty and Malabar Hill, and end at Breach Candy’s Priyadarshini Park.
The coastal road cuts down the 45-minute commute from Girgaon to Worli to just 10 minutes. The tunnels, which comprise only a 2-km stretch, resemble the Queen’s necklace, the C-shaped Marine Drive promenade.
