World Health Organisation Releases New Sodium Benchmarks, Cautions Against High Salt Intake

In May 2021, the World Health Organisation (WHO) released the first edition of its Global Sodium Benchmarks. It consisted of 10 benchmarks for various food categories. In April 2024, the organisation released a second edition, broadening the scope within each category. The most recent edition specifies maximum sodium levels in 70 food subcategories. But what is the objective behind setting these benchmarks? As per the website, “These global benchmarks are intended to be complementary to ongoing national and regional efforts to set sodium targets. Global sodium benchmarks are also intended to be useful for countries in setting national policies and strategies and for the ongoing dialogue between WHO and the private sector at the global level.”

Why Indiana Judge Declared Tacos And Burritos Are “Mexican-Style Sandwiches”

Every time anyone talks about Mexican cuisine, crispy tacos and flavourful burritos are the first things to pop up in our heads. But do you know, these lip-smacking dishes have been declared as ‘Mexican-style sandwiches”? Yes, you read that right. A yearlong debate between a restaurateur and the county commission ended after an Indiana Judge ruled, “tacos and burritos are Mexican-style sandwiches.” As per a report by USA Today, this ruling is rooted in a case that started in 2019. Martin Quintana, who is the owner of a Mexican-style restaurant, sought zoning approvals from the Fort Wayne Plan Commission. Citing the court documents, the report revealed that Martin's “request was to upgrade the space from a single-family designation to a limited commercial occupancy for his business.”

Should Calhoun Stay On Boeing Board After Departing As CEO?

Boeing shareholders voted on the fate of Dave Calhoun in the company’s board, once he hands over his position as Chief Executive Officer.
When he leaves the company at the end of the year, current Boeing CEO Dave Calhoun will receive $33 million in bonuses, as part of his 2023 pay package. This caused a few raised eyebrows throughout the industry.

An understatement for some, since Boeing bonuses are nominally based on meeting cost and production targets.
To be fair, the pay Calhoun is getting on his departure is lower than that of previous Boeing CEO Dennis Muilenburg ($62.2 million) who lost his job following the MAX crashes and the grounding that followed.
