The Calcutta High Court has cancelled all certificates to Other Backward Classes issued in Bengal since 2011 under the Trinamool Congress administration, calling them “illegal”. This, however, would not affect the jobs held currently by the people, the court said. Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has said she “will not accept” the order, which takes away the rights granted to the Tapashili community.
The court struck down reservation for several communities as Other Backward Classes under a new law of the state government passed in 2012.
Justices Tapabrata Chakraborty and Rajasekhar Mantha, however, said the executive orders of the state government classifying 66 classes of OBC before 2010 were not interfered with, since these were not challenged in the petitions.

Soon after an FIR was registered against him for letting his teenaged son drive the luxury car, the prominent Pune realtor was on the run. To mislead the cops, he left home in his car and asked the driver to take the road to Mumbai. He told another driver to leave for Goa in his other car. On the way to Mumbai, he got off the car and used a friend’s car to proceed towards Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, earlier known as Aurangabad. Multiple cars were involved to confuse the cops on where he was headed, police have said. The realtor also started using a new SIM card so that police cannot track his number, police have said.

The BJP will win 305 (+/- 10) seats in the 2024 Lok Sabha election, American political scientist and global political risk consultant Ian Bremmer told NDTV Profit in an exclusive interview Tuesday.
Mr Bremmer, the founder of the Eurasia Group, a risk and research consulting firm, also said the Indian general election, from a global political perspective, is “the only thing that looks stable and consistent…everything else (including the United States election due in November) is problematic”.
“… We have an enormous amount of macro-level geopolitical uncertainty and the future of globalisation is not going the way companies want it to. Politics is inserting itself into the global marketplace… wars, US-China relations, and the US election are all a big part of that,” he said.
“All of these not being managed well and these pressures are more negative. In fact, the only thing that looks stable and consistent, politically, is the India election. Everything else looks problematic.”
