Assembly polls: Haryana records 65.65 per cent voter turnout, surpasses Lok Sabha polls 2024 turnout

The single-phase polling for 90 Assembly constituencies in Haryana concluded peacefully on Saturday across more than 20,000 polling stations, recording a final voter turnout of 65.65 percent.

According to the Election Commission of India (ECI), the voter turnout for the General Elections to the Legislative Assembly of Haryana stood at approximately 65.65 percent as of 11:45 PM, surpassing the 64.8 percent turnout recorded during the Lok Sabha elections in 2024. Fatehabad led the turnout charts with 74.51 percent, followed by Yamunanagar at 73.27 percent, and Mewat at 72.83 percent. Panchkula had the lowest turnout at 54.71 percent.

Exit polls predicted a sweeping victory for Congress in Haryana, with some projecting the party would secure more than 50 of the 90 seats in the assembly. The majority needed to form a government in the 90-member assembly is 46 seats. According to TV-Today C-Voter projections, Congress is expected to win between 50-58 seats, while the BJP is projected to win 20-28 seats. Other parties could secure 10-16 seats.

The People Pulse poll survey estimated Congress may win 44-54 seats, the BJP 15-29, and other parties 4-9 seats. Similarly, Dainik Bhaskar’s poll survey suggested Congress will win 44-54 seats, the BJP 15-29, and others 4-9.

A total of 1,031 candidates contested in the 90 assembly constituencies, and 20,632 polling booths were set up for voting. The votes will be counted on October 8 for both Haryana and Jammu and Kashmir.

In the 2019 Assembly elections, the BJP won 40 of the 90 seats and formed a coalition government with the JJP, which secured 10 seats. The Congress won 31 seats. However, the JJP later broke away from the coalition.
