KUWAIT CITY, June 2: The Court of Appeals overturned the verdict issued by a lower court that sentenced a Kuwaiti citizen to ten-year imprisonment for fighting alongside ISIS in Syria. The court instead refrained from punishing her. It also refrained from punishing a Syrian woman and a Kuwaiti man who helped her travel.
According to the case file, the Kuwaiti citizen had transferred KD 500 in support of ISIS in Yemen and traveled to Syria via Turkey with the help of the Syrian woman and her Kuwaiti husband. Earlier, the Court of First Instance had sentenced a Kuwaiti man and woman, and a Syrian woman to ten-year imprisonment, imposed a fine of KD 1,000, sentenced them to imprisonment for another seven years, and refrained from punishing a Kuwaiti man and woman, on charges of joining ISIS in Syria and Yemen and financing it.
