GRSE to build advanced Oceanographic Research Vessel for Ministry of Earth Sciences

Garden Reach Shipbuilders & Engineers (GRSE) Ltd., a leading Indian warship builder, is pleased to announce its upcoming collaboration with the Ministry of Earth Sciences (MoES). The company emerged as the lowest bidder (L1) for a new Oceanographic Research Vessel (ORV) project in Q3 of 2023.

Following the successful bid, GRSE has received a Letter of Intent (LOI) from the MoES for the construction of this state-of-the-art vessel. The estimated value of the contract stands at approximately ₹840 crore (US$102 million). The formal contract signing is anticipated to take place sometime this month.

This win marks a significant development for GRSE, showcasing its expertise beyond warships and into the realm of specialized scientific research vessels. The new ORV will play a crucial role in furthering India’s oceanographic research capabilities.
