Kolkata doctor rape and murder case: IMA announces a 24-hour nationwide strike

After the brutal crime at Kolkata’s RG Kar Medical College and Hospital and the hooliganism of protesting students on the eve of Independence Day, the Indian Medical Association (IMA) has announced a 24-hour nationwide strike.

The IMA issued a press release informing the public the public about the nationwide strike.

The Indian Medical Association has said that in view of the incidents of violence against doctors, services will be closed for 24 hours, from 6 a.m. on Saturday, August 17, to 6 a.m. on Sunday, August 18. However, all essential services will remain in place during this time. The injured will be treated, but regular OPD will remain closed, and no elective surgery will be done.

The IMA further said that this shutdown will be in all areas where modern medical doctors are providing service.

IMA says that the attack on protesting doctors at RG Kar Medical College on Wednesday night is very unfortunate and condemnable. IMA needs the sympathy of the nation towards the just cause of its doctors. We just want the safety of the doctors.
