A suspect in the murder case of Bangladeshi MP Anwarul Azim Anar was arrested in Kathmandu on Monday, while the main accused has fled to the USA. Anwarul Azim Anar, an MP from Bangladesh, was brutally killed in Kolkata, with his body dismembered into about 80 pieces to destroy evidence. The main accused, a business partner of the victim, fled to America.
Ankhtuaruzzama, a US passport holder and business partner of Anwarul, is suspected to be the mastermind behind the murder. He allegedly killed Anwarul with the help of local accomplices and escaped to the USA via Kathmandu.
According to Nepal’s Immigration Department, Ankhtuaruzzama arrived in Kathmandu on May 20 on an IngGo flight from Delhi and departed for the USA via Dubai the next day. He boarded flight number FZ-574 at 1:15 am on May 21 after receiving his boarding pass at Kathmandu Airport for a connecting flight to America.
During the investigation in Nepal, it was revealed that a Bangladeshi national, Mohammad Siyam Hussain (31), had traveled from Dhaka to Nepal and then to West Bengal by road, arriving in Kolkata on May 2. Hussain had entered Nepal on a tourist visa valid until June 1. He was planning to leave Nepal two days before his visa expired but was apprehended by the police and handed over to Nepal’s immigration department.
Bangladeshi police arrived in Kathmandu on Monday and took Hussain into custody. He will be transported to Dhaka for further investigation after completing formalities in Kathmandu.
