Microsoft Directed to Pay IPA Technologies $242 Million in Cortana Patent Lawsuit

Microsoft has been directed by a federal jury in Delaware to pay $242 million to patent owner IPA Technologies, after it determined that Microsoft’s Cortana virtual-assistant software infringed an IPA patent. After a week-long trial, the jury agreed with IPA Technologies that Microsoft’s Cortana voice-recognition technology violated the firm’s IPA’s patent rights.
