Nepal: Indian tourist bus plunges into Marsyangdi river, 14 killed

A passenger bus with an Uttar Pradesh registration number plunged into the Marsyangdi River in Nepal’s Tanahun district on Friday. Kumar Neupane, spokesperson for Nepal’s Armed Police Force, confirmed that 14 bodies have been recovered from the river.

The bus, carrying at least 40 passengers was en route from Pokhara to Kathmandu when the incident occurred.

Tanahun Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Deepkumar Raya told ANI that the bus was located on the riverbank.

The Relief Commissioner of Uttar Pradesh said that efforts are underway to determine if any passengers from the state were on board. “We are establishing contact to find out if any individual from Uttar Pradesh was on the bus,” the commissioner said.

The Sub-Divisional Magistrate from Maharajganj is en route to Nepal, and the Additional District Magistrate will oversee further coordination efforts.

Further details regarding the incident are awaited as rescue operations continue.
