Paris 2024: India edges out on Great Britain in tense penalty shootout to storm into men’s hockey semis

Despite being a man down, India overcame Great Britain in a dramatic penalty shootout on Sunday to advance to the semifinals at the Paris Olympics 2024.

PR Sreejesh starred in the penalty shootout after the match had ended 1-1 in regular time, with India contending with just 10 players for most of the final three quarters after Amit Rohidas was red-carded.

Sreejesh made a crucial save against Philip Roper, and Rajkumar Pal scored the decisive goal to cement India’s place in the final four for the second consecutive Olympics. Harmanpreet Singh had initially given India the lead in the 22nd minute before Lee Morton equalized.

India will now be up against either Germany or Argentina in the semi-final.

Both semifinals of the men’s hockey are scheduled for August 6.
