Prime Minister Narendra Modi extended warm congratulations to U.S. President Donald Trump following his re-election, emphasizing that his decisive victory reflects the American public’s deep trust in his leadership and vision. The two leaders connected via telephone, with PM Modi also lauding the Republican Party’s success in the congressional elections.
The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) issued a statement detailing the exchange. According to the ministry, PM Modi acknowledged the “resounding success” of Trump’s campaign, emphasizing the evident support from the American people. PM Modi said that Trump’s leadership and vision have fostered strong ties with India, referring to the “Howdy Modi” event in Houston in September 2019 and the “Namaste Trump” event in Ahmedabad during Trump’s February 2020 visit as defining moments in the India-U.S. relationship.
During today’s weekly media briefing, MEA spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal provided additional insights into the conversation, highlighting PM Modi’s message on X, where he expressed his pleasure at reconnecting with “his friend” President Trump and extended heartfelt congratulations on the victory.
Both leaders, the MEA reported, reaffirmed the importance of the India-U.S. comprehensive global strategic partnership. They committed to bolstering bilateral relations across sectors such as technology, defense, energy, and space for the mutual benefit of their citizens and global stability.
An official statement further confirmed that the leaders expressed a shared commitment to deepening cooperation in key areas as they look to the future of U.S.-India relations.
