PM Modi, World Lion Day

In a statement released on World Lion Day, Prime Minister Narendra Modi praised those involved in lion conservation and emphasized the government’s dedication to protecting big cats. PM Modi celebrated the success of the International Big Cat Alliance, which received Union Cabinet approval in February 2024. This initiative aims to unite countries with big cat populations to promote sustainable development and community support.

India, home to a significant population of Asiatic lions in Gujarat’s Gir National Park, has seen a substantial increase in lion numbers over recent years. Modi expressed satisfaction with the global response to the alliance and extended an invitation to wildlife enthusiasts to visit Gir National Park. He highlighted the park’s conservation efforts and the opportunity for visitors to experience Gujarat’s hospitality.
