Sensex, Nifty extend gains for fourth consecutive session

Indian benchmark indices continued their upward trajectory, closing higher for the fourth consecutive session on Wednesday.

The Sensex climbed 285.94 points, or 0.35%, to settle at 81,741.34, while the Nifty gained 93.90 points, or 0.38%, closing at 24,951.20.

Among the Nifty’s top performers were NTPC, Asian Paints, BPCL, JSW Steel, and Tata Motors. The session’s laggards included Britannia Industries, Dr. Reddy’s Labs, Tata Consumer, Reliance Industries, and Grasim Industries.

Sector-wise, most indices ended in the green, with gains in the media, power, healthcare, metal, and pharma sectors, each rising by 1%. The only exceptions were the realty and PSU bank sectors, which saw declines.

The BSE index saw an increase of nearly 1%, while the small-cap index ended the day marginally lower, indicating mixed sentiments in the broader market.
