Sensex, Nifty soar to new record highs

India’s benchmark indices continued their record-breaking run on Wednesday, with the Nifty closing above the 26,000 mark for the first time, buoyed by strong gains in energy, metal, and media stocks.

The Sensex added 255.83 points, or 0.30 percent, to end at 85,169.87, while the Nifty gained 63.75 points, or 0.25 percent, finishing at 26,004.15. Both indices touched fresh intraday highs, with the Sensex hitting 85,247.42 and the Nifty reaching 26,032.80.

Although the market started on a weak note, it remained largely range-bound throughout the session. A strong buying push in the final 30 minutes propelled the indices to new highs.

Top performers on the Nifty included Power Grid Corp, NTPC, Axis Bank, Grasim Industries, and Bajaj Finserv. On the losing side were LTIMindtree, Tech Mahindra, Tata Consumer, Tata Motors, and Titan Company.

The broader market underperformed, with both the BSE Midcap and Smallcap indices slipping by 0.5 percent.

Sector-wise, power, metal, media, and realty indices saw gains between 0.5 percent and 3 percent, while FMCG, PSU Bank, and IT sectors declined by 0.5 percent to 1 percent.
