US Embassy issues security alert for its nationals in Bangladesh

The US Embassy in Dhaka has issued a security alert for US nationals residing in Bangladesh on Saturday. A statement issued in its official website, US Embassy in Dhaka said “Calls for protests, demonstrations, marches and gatherings continue to occur and can often materialize quickly”.

“We are also aware of calls of a “total non-cooperation” movement beginning on Sunday, August 4. More protests are expected in the coming days”, it said.

The statement also said that due to the unpredictable nature of the protests and the government response, U.S. citizens should practice vigilance and avoid demonstrations and exercise caution in the vicinity of any large gatherings.

“If feeling unsafe, U.S. citizens should consider returning to the United States”, said the Statement. “Bangladesh is currently on a Level 4 travel advisory of “Do Not Travel”, it added.
