USA create history as rain drowns Pakistan

Co-hosts USA have qualified for the Super Eight stage of the T20 World Cup after their game against Ireland in Florida was abandoned without a ball being bowled. This means that Pakistan is now officially knocked out of the tournament.

Pakistan’s only hope of staying alive in the tournament depended on Ireland defeating the USA at Central Broward Park & Broward County Stadium.

However, a wet outfield, caused by heavy rains over the past few days, delayed the start of the match.

Pakistan remained hopeful as the sun emerged and the ground staff worked diligently to prepare the field. A couple of inspections further raised the prospect of play starting.

Around 45 minutes before the cutoff time, thunder and heavy showers hit. With no improvement in sight, the umpires called off the match.
