“3 Missed Opportunities For Opposition”: Prashant Kishor To NDTV

Poll strategist Prashant Kishor has scoffed at the Congress-led INDIA bloc’s chances of defeating the BJP in the 2024 Lok Sabha election, arguing the opposition grouping had failed to capitalise – multiple times – when Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s government was on the defensive. He made specific mention of the contentious Ram Mandir (consecration in Uttar Pradesh’s Ayodhya), saying, “The opposition virtually lay down arms (after the event). By the time they woke up again, in February, it was too late.”
“By the time INDIA bloc came into action, it was too late… the BJP had already recovered space it lost,” Mr Kishor, who orchestrated winning campaigns for three members of the opposition group – the Trinamool, the Congress, and the DMK – told NDTV on Tuesday.
Mr Kishor also criticised the INDIA bloc’s failure to announce a common prime ministerial candidate – something the BJP has also pounced on – and suggested this told the voters the opposition group “does not have a reliable fac..

BCCI Asked To Fulfill ‘Only Condition’ To See Dhoni Continue IPL Journey

Former India batter Ambati Rayudu doesn’t feel MS Dhoni has played his last match in the IPL and wants the BCCI to continue with the contentious impact player rule as it could help the long-serving legend to keep going in top-flight cricket. Dhoni’s Chennai Super Kings bowed out of this edition of the Indian Premier League following a 27-run defeat to Royal Challengers Bengaluru in a much-anticipated southern derby in Bengaluru on Saturday.
The five-time defending champions needed 17 in the final over to qualify for the playoffs on better net run rate, but bowler Yash Dayal, after being hit for monstrous six by Dhoni, held his nerves to help RCB prevail.
Later, speaking on Star Sports Cricket Live, Rayudu said, “I don’t think this is his last game. I just don’t see him wanting to end on this note.” Even as the RCB players broke into wild celebrations, Dhoni shook hands with the opposition’s reserves and support staff before quietly disappearing into the dressing room.
Rayudu said, “He ..

“This Is Murder, Not Accident”: Family Of Techie Killed In Porsche Crash

At 3 am today, an ambulance drove into Birsinghpur in Madhya Pradesh’s Umaria district. As soon as its doors opened, family members of 24-year-old Aneesh Awadhiya broke down. The young IT engineer, who had been working in Pune, was among the two people killed after a speeding Porsche driven by a drunk teen hit their bike.
Atmaram Awadhiya, Aneesh’s grandfather, said the teen driver, son of a prominent Pune realtor, should not have been granted bail. “Two people have died in this accident. This is completely wrong. We want strict punishment. The bail granted to the accused should be cancelled,” he said.
Aneesh Awadhiya and Ashwini Koshta, also an IT engineer, were returning from a get-together late on Saturday. Around 2.15 am, their bike was hit from behind by a speeding Porsche. Both Ashwini and Aneesh died on the spot. The driver, aged 17 years 8 months, was granted bail by a Pune court within 15 hours with some conditions — he has been asked to write a 300-word essay on accidents, w..

‘Indulged In Destruction Of Evidence’: Court Rejects Manish Sisodia’s Bail

Arvind Kejriwal got interim bail. So did Sanjay Singh. But no such luck for Manish Sisodia.
The Delhi High Court on Tuesday dismissed the bail petition of former Delhi Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia in money laundering and corruption cases filed by the Enforcement Directorate and the CBI respectively in connection with the alleged liquor scam.
His party, the AAP, said it “respectfully disagrees” with the Delhi High Court’s decision and will approach the Supreme Court to seek “justice” for the former deputy chief minister.
Mr Sisodia, 52, allegedly indulged in the destruction of crucial evidence, including electronic evidence, said Justice Swarna Kanta Sharma, who started pronouncing the order at 6:28 pm. The order was read out for 22 minutes.
“This court is of the opinion that petitioner has not been able to make out a case for grant of bail in his favour,” the High Court said.
The High Court said he was a very powerful and influential person within the power corridors of the Del..

Exclusive: Who Will Win 2024 Polls? Prashant Kishor’s “Boring” Prediction

There is neither widespread anger against the incumbent BJP nor a clamour for a challenger, political strategist Prashant Kishor told NDTV today, predicting that Prime Minister Narendra Modi is likely to lead the BJP to another victory in the ongoing Lok Sabha election. Mr Kishor, who now leads Jan Suraaj, said the BJP’s tally in this election may hover around its 2019 score of 303 or better than it.
When NDTV’s editor-in-chief Sanjay Pugalia asked what he thinks will be the June 4 result, Mr Kishor said, “The future will show what the June 4 result will be. Journalists, psephologists and experts have their own opinions. As far as I am concerned, I would say consistency can sometimes be boring. For the past five months, I have been saying that no matter how you assess the elections, it seems Modi-led BJP is returning. They may get the same numbers as last election or do slightly better.”
“We should look at the fundamentals. If there is anger against the incumbent government and its le..

Singapore Flight Hit By Turbulence Dropped 6,000 Feet In Just 5 Minutes

One person was killed and 30 injured Tuesday when a Singapore Airlines Boeing 777 hit severe turbulence on a flight from London and was forced to make an emergency landing in Bangkok.
Emergency vehicles raced onto the tarmac at the Thai capital’s main airport with lights flashing and sirens blaring after Singapore-bound flight SQ321 touched down at 3:45 pm (0845 GMT).
It is the latest drama involving a Boeing plane, after a fuselage panel blew out of an Alaska Airlines 737 MAX in January as well as two fatal crashes in 2018 and 2019.
Singapore Airlines said the flight took off from London’s Heathrow airport and “encountered severe turbulence en route”.
“We can confirm that there are injuries and one fatality on board the Boeing 777-300ER. There were a total of 211 passengers and 18 crew on board,” the airline said in a statement.
The carrier said “18 individuals have been hospitalised. Another 12 are being treated in hospitals,” without giving details of the nature and severity of the ..

“If BJP Wins, But Less Than 370, Market May…”: Prashant Kishor To NDTV

Poll strategist Prashant Kishor today credited the BJP for shifting the election discourse to winning 370 seats from just crossing the halfway mark in the Lok Sabha. However, a failure to achieve that mark may disappoint the share market, noted Mr Kishor in an exclusive interview with NDTV’s Editor-in-Chief Sanjay Pugalia.
“When the expectation from a company is very high and they do not meet that despite performing well, the stock market punishes them. From this point of view, if the BJP scores less than 370 seats, this may become a talking point. The markets too may reflect this,” said the poll strategist.
Mr Kishor, who had worked with Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the BJP during 2014 polls, has predicted a victory for the ruling party in the ongoing elections.
He also called the BJP’s 370-seat target a “smart” move, which has benefitted them in changing the election discourse.

“How Can Juvenile Board Give Such Order?” D Fadnavis On Pune Porsche Crash

Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis has promised strong action against the teen who crashed his high-end car into a motorbike, killing two people on the spot. Mr Fadnavis condemned the “lenient” punishment given to the boy by the Juvenile Justice Board – a 300-word essay on accidents, working with the traffic police for 15 days and undergoing counselling for his drinking – in contrast with the heinous crime. “How can the Juvenile Justice (JJ) Board give such an order,” he asked.
The Porsche car allegedly driven by the 17-year-old, who the police claim was drunk at the time, knocked down two IT professionals in Kalyani Nagar area of the city in the early hours of Sunday. Witnesses said Ashwini was thrown 20 feet in the air and Aneesh was flung into a parked car.
“We have appealed to the district court against the Juvenile Justice (JJ) Board order. There is a huge public outrage. I have taken stock of the investigation updates till now,” Mr Fadnavis said.
The minor, son o..
